Personal Data:
Senator Ibikunle Amosun was born in Abeokuta on Saturday, 25 January, 1958.
His primary education was at African Church Primary School, Abeokuta (1965 – 1970) and secondary school with African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta (1971 – 1977). He later acquired HND in Accountancy at Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Abeokuta (1979 – 1983) and M.A. International Finance at University of Westminster, London (1999 – 2000).
Professional Career:
Senator Amosun started his accounting career in 1984 as an Audit Trainee with Messrs J.A.A. Adeniyi & Co. (Chartered Accountants). He later joined Lanre Aremu & Co. (Chartered Accountants), where he rose to become an Audit Manager in 1989. He was also a Senior Consultant with XtraEdge Consulting Limited.
In 1990, he became an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) same year he co-established the Accounting Firm of Ibikunle Amosun & Co. (Chartered Accountants). In 2003, he was inducted as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Institute of Taxation (FCTI).
Political Career: The Senate (2003 – 2007)
SIA, as he is fondly called was elected into the 5th Senate, in April, 2003, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District. He served in the following committees of the Senate:
• Chairman, Senate Committee on Commerce
• Member, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs
• Member, Senate Committee on Appropriation
• Member, Senate Committee on Privatization
• Member, Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence
Amosun also served as member of the ECOWAS Parliament (2003-2007), where he represented Nigeria at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Parliamentarian Committee (2003-2007) and he was also a member of the WTO Steering Committee.
Amosun amplified the voice of the masses by moving several motions and sponsored many bills on issues that touched on the day-to-day lives of not only members of his immediate constituency, but also Ogun State and the nation in general.
He was instrumental to some of the landmark reforms in telecommunications, customs and excise and other strategic sectors of the Nigerian Economy. Some of his Bills that were passed and signed into law include:
Local Content Solid Minerals Development Bill, 2005
• Fire Service Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2005; and
• Income Tax Relief Bill for Sports Development, 2005.
Fourth Elected Governor of Ogun State, Nigeria (2011 – 2019)
On 29 May, 2011, Senator Amosun was sworn-in as the fourth elected Governor of Ogun State, having won the election held in April 2011 after contesting on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He was re-elected on the platform of APC (All Progressive Congress) and sworn in for a second term in office on 29 May 2015.
Governor Amosun’s Mission to Rebuild Ogun State Agenda was anchored on a 5 point – Cardinal Programme:
Affordable and Qualitative Education
• Efficient Health Care Delivery
• Agricultural Production and Industrialization
• Affordable Housing and Urban Renewal
• Rural and Infrastructural Development / Employment Generation
His administration recorded significant achievements in various critical sectors such as Free Education, stimulation of the Investment Environment, Agriculture, Women Empowerment, Security, massive Infrastructural Development and Urban Renewal. Some of the successes recorded were:-
• Turned Ogun State to Industrial Capital of Nigeria
Increased Ogun State Ranking in World Bank – Ease of Doing Business Sub National Report from 35thposition in 2011 to 3rd position in 2014.
• Increased the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State from N700 Million Naira per Month in 2011 to an average of N7 Billion Naira per Month in 2019.
The Ninth Senate (2019 - 2023)
After serving the good people of Ogun State meritoriously for two (2) terms of four (4) years, as Governor, in February 2019, Senator Amosun was elected as Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial district in the 9th Senate. He served on the following Committees:-

• Member, Committee on Appropriation
• Member, Senate Committee on Public Accounts
• Member, Senate Committee on National Security & Intelligence

Bills & Motions by Senator Ibikunle Amosun
While in the 9th Senate, Senator Ibikunle Amosun achieved an uncommon feat of sponsoring a total of twenty (23) Bills thus, making him one of the top ranking Senators in bill sponsorship and quality contributions on the floor of the Senate. Out of the 23 Bills sponsored, three (3) were passed by the Senate:
• A Bill for the establishment of Federal University of Medicine & Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, Ogun State (SB.26).
• Child Rights Act 2003 (Amendment) Bill 2019 (SB.227)
• Nationwide Toll Bill, 2020 (SB.583)
And one of the Bills – Federal University of Medicine & Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, was assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Philanthropy:
SIA believes that people who are endowed must be benevolent to others less privileged. Amosun, a consummate philanthropist who through his scholarship scheme instituted in 1986, several years before venturing into politics, has awarded scholarships to over 1,000 students of Ogun State origin, in various institutions of higher learning.
Senator Amosun’s generosity and quest to uplift others can be felt in various other subsisting empowerment initiatives for trade groups, artisans, communities, old age people, women and other vulnerable groups in the society. His Alma Maters – African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta and Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), also in Abeokuta - have benefited from his generous disposition to give back to the society. He built and commissioned the Administrative Block at African Church Grammar School, among other similar gestures. He also enlist several people who he gives regular monthly allowances as a welfare support venture to alleviate financial hardship besides giving materially to good causes.
His Philosophy:
A social welfarist, he believes that the rich are obligated to cater for the poor and underprivileged in the society. His government policy thrust is anchored on a strong partnership between public and private sectors. While the government has the responsibility to provide the enabling environment, to achieve sustainable economic growth and social development, the private sector must play the pivotal role.
Senator Amosun’s work rate and capability for critical thinking remain his core leadership attributes, in addition to commitment to transparency and accountability. He approaches every responsibility and task with an infectious passion, commitment and perseverance. A hands-on leader who leads by example, he has the knack to identify, assemble, and nurture talents to create motivated teams with capacity to deliver optimal outcomes.
Senator Amosun is married to Mrs. Olufunso Amosun and the marriage is blessed with five lovely children.
